Outback Steakhouse

It has been more than a month since my wife gave birth to our lovely daughter. This is our first meal out together after her delivery. I brought her and our daughter to Outback Steakhouse for lunch but of course the baby could only drink her milk. Here's what we ordered:

- Caesar Salad

I'm not a fan of salad but this Caesar Salad had definitely impressed me. The dressing is not oily and the cheese goes very well with the salad. This dish is worth a try especially for salad lovers out there.

- Cream of Chicken and Mushroom

The soup is delicious, the texture is thick and creamy. You can find ingredients like celery, carrots, small chunks of chicken and cubes of mushroom. This is unlike those canned soup you find in supermarket, it's tastier and the ingredients are fresh.

- Kookaburra Wings (Medium Hot)

The Kookaburra Wings are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I find that the wings can be more flavourful if it is marinated longer to absorb the spices. Personally, I think that I should have gone for the "Hot" instead of "Medium Hot' cause the latter is not spicy enough for my liking.

- BBQ Chicken

The BBQ Chicken is grilled till it's slightly charred on the outside and tender on the inside. The BBQ sauce goes well with the chicken. I'm not a fan of BBQ Chicken but this dish is pretty well done. I would say that this is a passable dish if you are in the restaurant because of the need for variety to cater to different people. Just chicken? I would head to Kenny's.

- Black Pepper Steak

I have very high expectation when it comes to steak. I find that the steak can be better if they add brown sauce to the black pepper to give the steak more flavour.

Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and the restaurant has a nice ambience that is suitable for couples and gatherings.

Kyo-Nichi Japanese Ramen (Marina Square)

I was at Marina Square today for lunch. I decided to have Ramen at this place called Kyo-Nichi Japanese Ramen. This is one of the Top 10 Ramen in Singapore. One of the uniqueness of the Ramen here is the collagen in the soup base. I ordered one Standard Char Siew Ramen, Spicy Char Siew Ramen and a plate of Char Siew. The Standard Char Siew Ramen is served in richly flavoured collagen soup and the texture of the noodles were just nice. The Char Siew is delicious and will melt when you put it in your mouth. The Spicy Char Siew Ramen is also rich in flavour like the Standard Char Siew Ramen but the only difference is that it has added chilli oil that adds more flavour to the noodles if you like it spicy. As for the Char Siew, the pork is thinly sliced and even the fat melts in your mouth. This is definitely one of the best Ramen I have ever tasted. This is one Ramen not to be missed.

Peach Blossoms (鸿桃轩)

Today I decided to check out Peach Blossom at Marina Mandarin. Heard that the Dim Sum Buffet there is good. We ordered the Roast Duck, Braised Sharksfin with Crab Meat and Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber with Spinach and Dried Scallops, Chilled Chicken with Chinese Wine Roll, XO Carrot Cake, Siew Mai, Pork Ribs, Chicken Feet, Char Siew Bao, Fried Beancurd Skin with Prawns and Minced Meat, Xiao Long Bao, Szechuan Dumplings, Char Siew Pastry, Osmanthus Jelly and Chrysanthemum Jelly with Green Apple. The Roast Duck is tasty, the skin is crispy and the meat is juicy and not too dry. The Braised Sharksfin is rich and thick with the goodness of the crab meat and fish maw. For the Sea Cucumber, I find that it's not soft enough and it is too thick but the gravy goes extremely well with the sea cucumber and spinach. The Chilled Chicken with Chinese Wine Roll is kindof unique with a strong taste of chinese wine. For Dim Sum dishes like the Siew Mai, Pork Ribs and Chicken Feet, I find it very normal and can be better. The Char Siew Bao is nice and soft. The Fried Beancurd Skin with Prawns and Minced Meat is nice and crispy.  The Xiao Long Bao is kindof normal and I think they can add more meat so that the soup will taste even better and not so bland. The Szechuan Dumplings are a little spicy but the skin is not too thick and the filling of the meat is just nice. The Char Siew Pastry is fantastic, the pastry simply melts in your mouth. The Osmanthus Jelly has a nice fragrant of the Osmanthus but I find it a little too sweet. Lastly for the Chrysanthemum Jelly, it's chilled and has a refreshing taste and it is garnished with small cubes of green apples. The price per person is S$45++. Overall I find the Dim Sum Buffet above average but kindof pricey but if you order the Sharksfin or Buddaha Jump Over The Wall, then you can make your dollars worth.
